Rustenburg has enormous potential — but many children and young people have limited access to technology, practical learning, creative spaces, and pathways into future careers.
We want to help change that by creating a place where children can learn by doing and young people can develop skills, confidence, and enterprise potential.
Our First Goal: R450 000
We are raising R450 000 to launch the first phase of the Rustenburg After‑Care and Africa Tech Hub Pilot from October 2026.

For over five years, we’ve carried a vision, through our founder, to give children and young people in Rustenburg greater opportunities to learn, create, discover their potential, and thrive.

HELP BUILD A FUTURE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE MDU
One young man. One opportunity. A bigger vision for thousands of young South Africans.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of interacting with many people living on the margins of our economy. But every now and then, you meet someone whose story stays with you.
Mdu is one of those young people.
He is intelligent, hardworking, humble and incredibly determined. Like many talented young people in South Africa, he has ideas, ambition and the willingness to work — but lacks the financial resources, infrastructure and opportunity needed to turn his potential into a sustainable business.
Recently, I took Mdu to present a business plan he had developed for entering the telecommunications industry.
He had been working on this opportunity and trying to secure investment for 14 years.
What began as a simple act of kindness gave me the opportunity to get to know him better.
His positivity, humility, determination and belief in his idea made a lasting impression on me — and on the people to whom he presented.
THE PROBLEM
The prospective investors were extremely impressed.
They recognised the quality of his research, the way he articulated his business opportunity and the thought that had gone into his business plan.
But they needed something more:
Proof of concept.
They wanted to see the business operational, with a track record of approximately two years.
And this is where the problem becomes bigger than Mdu.
How does a young entrepreneur prove that a business works when he does not have the space, infrastructure, equipment, resources or financial stability needed to get the business off the ground in the first place?
This is the frustrating reality facing many talented young people.
They don’t necessarily lack ability. They lack opportunity.
MY OWN JOURNEY
This situation is deeply personal to me.
Since 2021, I have been working to establish a shared STEM and technology community training and educational development centre, combined with enterprise development, where young people can acquire practical skills, develop businesses and ultimately supply products and services to companies and consumers.
I have more than 40 years of corporate management, business, marketing and strategy experience, together with an MBA and a Business degree.
Yet even with that experience, I have struggled to turn the vision into a physical centre because the resources to establish the infrastructure have simply not been available.
The COVID-19 period changed my own life dramatically.
I lost my consulting business, my home and much of what I had built.
I eventually moved to rural Rustenburg.
And here, I began encountering even more young people with extraordinary potential — bright sparks who are capable of so much more, but who are stranded without access to the resources and infrastructure they need.
Mdu reminded me of that bigger picture.
FROM HELPING ONE YOUNG MAN TO BUILDING A PATHWAY FOR MANY
This is why we are building the Africa Tech Hub and GCU Academy of Sciences ecosystem, supported by the Africa Tech Hub Foundation NPC.
Our vision is not simply to give young people temporary assistance.
We want to create a pathway where young people can:
LEARN → DEVELOP SKILLS → INCUBATE → START → OPERATE → GROW → ACCESS INVESTMENT
The Tech Hub can provide a place where aspiring entrepreneurs and young people can access practical training, technology, mentorship, business development support and incubation.
The longer-term goal is to help promising young businesses develop the proof of concept, operational capability and track record that investors and customers need to see.
That is the infrastructure of opportunity that is missing for so many young people.
THIS CAMPAIGN STARTS WITH MDUs STORY
Right now, Mdu is still searching for the investment he needs to move his business forward.
While he continues that journey, we want to give him — and eventually other young people like him — a helping hand.
Funds raised through this campaign will help provide immediate practical support, including:
- Living expenses while he works towards his next opportunity
- Transportation to training, meetings and incubation opportunities
- Access to skills development and business incubation
- Greater stability while he works to get his business off the ground
- Support towards creating an environment where other young entrepreneurs can also develop and operationalise their ideas
Mdu is one person. But his story represents thousands of young people who have ideas, ability and determination — yet remain trapped by a lack of resources and opportunity.
I BELIEVE THEY DESERVE A CHANCE
I truly believe that Mdu deserves a chance.
And I believe that thousands of other unemployed and marginalised young people deserve that same chance.
Not a handout.
A hand up.
A place to learn.
A place to work.
A place to develop an idea.
A place to build a business.
A place to demonstrate what they can do.
And ultimately, an opportunity to become economically independent.

Our immediate goal is to establish the Rustenburg pilot. Our longer-term ambition is to mobilise R5 million to expand access to educational infrastructure, digital technology, STEAM resources, practical and vocational skills, teacher development, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
